I love reading through different Bibles. Different versions often allow me to get something new from a scripture passage that I hadn’t noticed before. I also like reading the sidebars and footnotes when they’re available. Those give me a greater understanding of the context and how I can apply it to my life.
I am excited to read more of The Woman’s Study Bible. It’s New King James Version, which is not yet in my personal collection of Bibles. Better than that, I like how there are additional footnotes, sidebars, and quotes that pertain especially to women.
As I read through the book of James in this new Bible, I liked the way this translation worded one of my favorite verses, James 1:27. The explanation proceeding the text gave me a better understanding of James’ perspective. Woven in were explanations of topics like wisdom, self-centeredness, surrender, and healing. Footnotes were abundant and informational, and some were directed especially towards women. Since many Bible passages are addressed to “men” it can be confusing to figure out what messages are meant just for men and what was really meant for all mankind. These notes help sort things out.
Overall, this beautifully decorated Bible would make an ideal Easter gift, birthday gift, Mothers Day gift, or even a gift for yourself. This is a new release from Thomas Nelson, so you can probably get it wherever you find Christian books.
