“I’ve loved writing all my life. I was also quick to notice errors and areas for improvement, so many of my classmates would ask me to edit their papers. But more than these, I had a strong passion to love Jesus Christ.
But my preteen and teen years were tough. A strong faith community and family helped. But for me, it was Christian media that helped me live out my faith day-to-day. I would play my upbeat worship CDs (iPods were too new of a thing), and read magazines aimed towards showing Christ to teen girls (back then it was paper-only). Then, as the recession hit, I noticed that Christian media for preteens, teens, and even college students all but vanished. I know it was because of financial issues, but where faith was concerned, I was wondering if the incoming youth group kids would be able to build their life on a solid foundation. I even wondered if I would be able to stand firm!
While in college, I visited a website that was owned by some teenage girls younger than I was. They ran a magazine and a website, but their website announced that they, like all the other Christian magazines, were closing up shop. I immediately e-mailed them and asked if I could use some of their resources to create my own magazine. They e-mailed back and said yes! This was how the Girlz 4 Christ ministry was born.
Girlz 4 Christ sure has grown in the past five years, and we’re hoping to expand even more as we learn how to professionally manage this ministry. We created a sustainable and modern method to distribute the magazine, so we will be able to continue to publish at no cost to our readers, no matter what the state of the economy is. Our prayer is for each issue to bring glory to God and to encourage every reader.
Of course, I could not do all this on my own. Girlz 4 Christ would still be a dream in my head if it weren’t for a community of contributors over the years, most of whom I have never even met. The “regulars” are featured below, and many more are featured in each and every issue of the magazine.
As we go into our fourth year with high hopes and expectations, I hope you’ll join us in impacting the world for Christ!”
